Anton Chekhov was right. His nephew matured into a man the legendary STELLA  ADLER called "the greatest actor of the twentieth century."  Critics termed Chekhov’s work “an emotional shock,” “rapture" and claimed "his acting defies description: transforming his body to demonstrate simply, enigmatically the soul itself… despairing, perfervid, trembling." ( Karel Capek ) )Capek)

Michael Chekhov’s genius drew upon the experience of history’s best actors in creating his method, which he brought to life as an actor and teacher. He founded schools in Russia, Germany, France, Latvia, England, and America. His most famous students include Ingrid Bergman, Yul Brynner, Gary Cooper, Clint Eastwood, Marilyn Monroe, Anthony Quinn, Jack Palance, Gregory Peck, and Robert Vaughn. Morris Carnovsky tells us "Michael Chekhov understood the actor's nature better than anyone else since – and perhaps including Stanislavsky."

From Michael Chekhov’s memoir: “Anton Chekhov was able totally to forget his self interest in normal surroundings. His care for others often overstepped even the limit of reason. … His humor was as great as his capacity for self denial.”

The great Russian playwright said this of his
4 years old nephew, “Misha is an amazingly intelligent boy. Excitement sparkles in his eyes. I think he'll be a very talented person.”
